Convicted Child Killer Eric Smith Denied Parole
Convicted child killer Eric Smith will spend at least two more years in prison.
A state parole board denied Smith's appeal for parole this week.
Smith was convicted of the August 1993 murder of four-year-old Derrick Robie in the Steuben County village of Savona. Smith was just 13 years old at the time of the crime.
The state panel noted Smith had a clean record during his nearly 19-years of incarceration, but ruled because of community opposition, Smith's release would not be compatible with the welfare of society at large.
Smith will next be eligible for parole in April 2014.
