The victim from the Clifford Avenue shooting Thursday remains in guarded condition at Strong Hospital. Police continue to investigate what happened Thursday night when a homeowner says he took action to defend his property.

Some people in the neighborhood had mixed feelings about who is right and who is wrong in this case. Many were quick to rush to the defense of the homeowner, saying he is a good man, who did what he had to do.

Police were called to this home at 510 Clifford Avenue just before 11 p.m. Thursday, where they found a man shot in the yard. The victim had apparently walked off with items from the man's fenced-in yard, when the homeowner confronted him. Police say the homeowner then fired a shot, hitting the suspect in the leg with several pellets of birdshot. Neighbors tell YNN the homeowner had warned the suspect several times in the past to keep off his property.

"Don't nobody want to harm another individual, but sometimes, you know, you put in a situation where you have no other recourse, ya know, but to protect yourself," said a neighbor.

When another neighbor was asked what he does to keep his stuff safe on the street, Fernando Morales replied, "Gotta put in the basement, safety, can't leave nothing in the back."

One neighbor told YNN he was probably in the minority, but felt that no one has the right to shoot another person, unless they truly feel they are in danger. Police have yet to release the names of the two men involved. A grand jury is set to review this case and determine what, if any, charges will be filed.
